Happy New Year

December 31, 2008

fireworks2

Well its coming up to new years and before i get back to my copious amout of beer drinking and telling everyone “How i love them” i thought id do my first New Years Post!

Firstly i would like to say that iv finally chosen a class! I now have a level 14 (And rising!) Iron Breaker! So far they are great, i can 1v1 about any class (Although some do take alot longer than others) and he also seems plenty good at Solo PvE. Depending on how long my hangover takes to disperse after tonight ill write a “Introduction” to them, and also a “Abilities & What they Do” shortly after – after that we will see might do a RvR/PvE one etc.

Secondly i would like to thank all my readers, without you i would not be doing this – aslong as only one of you remains i will continue to blog for you! Well lets just say that this has been my first real “Month” of blogging, as iv never done it before and im really enjoying it! I hope to continue it into the new year and hope you will all choose to stick with me as i continue to adventure through WAR!

Nothing much else to say apart from i wish you all the best in the new year and i hope you all get very very drunk!

Update – Class Change & More!

December 26, 2008

Ok so heres just a quick post to tell you that iv changed class. After getting my engineer to 20 i dont believe its the class for me anymore. Dont get me wrong they are really fun but just not something i can see myself playing in the future! However sticking twith the theme of dwarves im now playing a IronBreaker!

So tomorrow expect another “Introduction” to the ironbreaker and later through the day my first go at a “Abilities & What to do” post! However please bear in mind my current one is only around 14 (Although he should be higher tomorrow) so my RvR is going to be limited with him.

Secondly i managed to finally get my battlebrew backpack! God knows how many snotlings i killed but it wouldnt suprise me if they were now extinct (Considering how many i killed on both my engineer and ironbreaker to get one to drop) What i have noticed is mythic said;

“Rare World Drop – The Battlebrew Backpack (one for each tier in which they are found)”

However is it just me or have you also seen multiple people wearing it in the T2/T3 range? I know i have.. Does it mean “One for each tier” as in you have a level 10 one a level 20 one etc? Or “One for each tier” as in one per tier per server? /Confused

Lastly before i nash off to bash some more orc skulls i would like to thankyou, the reader for… well reading my blog! Iv noticed my numbers increasing gradually and well your the only reason im doing this, if it wasnt for you there would be no point in me writing. So thankyou!

/Signing off

Christmas Update

December 25, 2008

Just to wish everyone a official merry christmas!

Also alot of stuff has happened on my end of the works, so ill update possibly tomorrow or the day after! Nothing majour, just class changes, ambitions of the blog etc.

Working on a new PC Rig too (Yes im abit of a confessed computer nerd) might even chuck that up for you all to stare and drool at.

Anyway back to the trifle and xmas pud!

Day Four

December 24, 2008

Just a quick update.

Forgot to post my “Positive” thoughts about keep taking lastnight, just to say i havnt forgotten but with christmas and such i might not be as active for the next few days until everything here is done and dusted.

Not much more to be said really but merry christmas and a happy new year!

Day Three – Keeps And Where They’re At

December 23, 2008

So day three started with me waking up and relising that iv still got a load of christmas shopping to do… a word a advice, never leave it this late… when it takes a hour just to get into the store nevermind buy anything you start to go crazy.

Anyway, as the title suggests todays post is about “RvR And Where Its At” Now currently i quite enjoy the ORvR experience, however there is alot that could be done to improve it. As i like to finish on a posotive note i will start with the negative.

The Zerg

This has to be the biggest killer in-game currently, for alot of people i imagine. The main problem is my eyes with it is that it crushes peoples FPS, hence it limits what defence you could put up against a zerg even more so. However, the game currently encourages Zergs as things such as speed have a high importance in keep taking, for instance if you cant get the doors down fast enough more and more defenders appear and make it even harder for you to take the keep. Also keep layouts contribute to zergs being formed, with all the severe bottlenecks in keeps the only way to make sure people get through them is to chuck hundreds of people at them, as eventually some will get through and then more & more etc.

To discourage the zerg you would have to come up with some incentive to encourage smaller group based (Say 6 players) RvR. A simple way to do this could be removing the immunity cap from and increase the amount of BO’s and having them give players a “Zone Wide Buff” if attacking or to increase keep defense some way, in my eyes that way people would have to be assigned to guard them while the rest went for the keep. Hence dividing the group up.

Defenders Loosing Out

Now while mythic have increased the amount of renown defenders get and also Inf for the new ORvR Influence Rewards i still think there is not a real incentive for defenders, if on a successful defense of a keep defenders got rewards (much like attackers) it would encourage alot more people to rally to the defense of one. Another problem is MDPS loosing out (Both in attacking and defending) Now many people have raised points such as adding a PQ system to the keep or secondary objectives such as a Gate Switch which controls the respawn of gates etc I whole heartidly agree with these suggestions as they would provide a much needed fun factor for the MDPS in keeps.

Bottlenecks

Currently another issue is the Bottlenecks that are in most (if not all) keeps. Many a time have i seen afew Bright Wizards and Engineer wipe a whole warband or two on the stairs because they could not get up – whether this be due to lag, player collision or another reason. Now yes i know attacking is meant to be really hard but (As stated above) this is encourage zergs, where they just send up hundreds of players constantly until they manage to get up. This problem would be so easily solved, simply add more than one way up, this would not only increase the fun factor for attackers but also defense as your concentrating on more than the door or the stairs. Simple things like ladders, seige towers are brilliant ideas that have already been chucked around.

Not Enough to Do

There currently is not enough to do in keeps, both for defenders and attackers. Defense consits of “Keep the door up” attack consists of “Kill the lord” In my eyes keep attacking/defending should be broken down in stages, much like a PQ (as mentioned above) It would actually encourage smaller group play as you could have say 3-4 objectives in stage one that need to be done, so while one group does Objective A another can do Objective B etc. As said above too things such as ladders and seige towers would be a great addition to the keep scene as it would allow MDPS to get “Stuck in” but also give both attackers and defenders more to do.

Any Reason to Claim a Keep?

Now in my opinion this would be a Brilliant feature if implemented properly! My MMO history consists of alot of games where you could either A) Claim a keep-like structure and customise it Or B) Customise your own guild city. All i can say was that when a game got it right it was great! And in WAR it would be so simple to fix, all you need to do effectively is add the ability to “Customise” your keep once its claimed. Want to spend gold on stronger walls or a stronger gate? Want to increase your keep upkeep by hiring more or better guards? Want to add more “Misc” bits or “Defenses” to your keep? If players could do this it would not only increase the amount of people wanting to claim keeps but also to HOLD them as it effectively becomes a guild hall.

Well after that big wall of text and 903 words i think that ill stick the positive points in my update later today, again i must stress that currently i love keep taking but there is alot that needs to be done to get it “Fixed”

Also my engineer is now level 16 and loving Frag Bomb! More about him in the update!

Day Two – Update

December 22, 2008

engineer32Been playing my engineer on and off all day today and so far im loving the class!

I love being able to chuck bombs to do splash AoE Damage and also single target dps to kill that pesky healer who is too busy looking at other peoples health bars! Once i get abit more RvR in i will hopefully be posting my thoughts and maybe even a guide on our roles, how effective we are etc.

Tomorrow i will be doing a mixed post, mainly about how WAR can improve, in my eyes, in the Open RvR aspect (keeps and such) However until then merry christmas!

Day Two – Engineer Introduction

December 22, 2008

engineer12The Engineers are the tinkerers of the dwarves and one of the two “Static pet” classes, the other being the Magus. They both function in a similar way: they both have the ability to summon static “Pets” or “Turrets” which are used for general abilities and added damage, while adding some element of fun to the class. They also both have the ability to do ALOT of AoE Damage if correctly specced in their respectice mastery trees. Due to  to various abilities, having alot of short to medium ranged abilities and their armor they are less squishy than most RDPS and casters, however running into a Witch Elf will still usually spell the end of you!

As said before, most engineer abilities range from medium to long distance attacks. However this changes depending on what Mastery Tree you decide to choose, for instance a grenadier is brilliant with bombs and tightly packed groups of players/mobs, as he focused more on AoE, but alot of his attacks are medium range. However the riflemen focuses more on single target dps with long range attacks. An engineer can fill alot of different RDPS roles, from long ranged single target dps, to mass AoE damage from bombs!

engineer21The Engineer can only use one-handed hammers (Which also look like ratchets) and Guns – Which can vary from long rifles to pistols (I dont think there is any difference concerning damage/range) Even though we can only use Light Armor we have some abilities that make up for it, such as Flak Jacket.

The challange of a engineer, is figuring out what abilities to use and when. Things such as turret placement, when to use grenades and when to use long range single target dps and how best to help your team. You also need to have good awareness in general, positioning yourself so you’re protected as much as possible from being focus fired and be ready to knockback that mean witch elf that just destealthed on your archmage healer.

All in all the engineer is a very fun and flexiable class and id reccomend it to anyone who enjoys playing a RDPS class with some funny and weird abilities on the side!

P.S: I figured how to get images working..

Day One – Update

December 21, 2008

Ok so after much deliberation, talking to players, friends, stealing cookies and the like iv finally decided to just go and try both a Warrior Priest and Engineer! As ill only be able to decide once iv played them both until around 20ish.  However after talking to alot of people one warrior priest said this:

“DPS classes are everywhere, theres always too many – even the good ones. Now good healers… you will be able to do whatever you want whenever you want!”

Which made me sersiouly consider just going WP and being a healbot – Which also made me think of these two brilliant cartoons Here and  Here, done by The Noob Comic! (Look towards the end on the second one)

They are currently kicking around level 5 and going up fast, so far im loving the classes, great solo classes and all round nice team-players, now all i have to do is make it to level 20 and get my group heals and quirky engineer abilities and im away! Also, the WP gear looks great, reminds me of the Space Marines in 40k… If only we got “power weapons” then we would truely own everything!

Day One

December 21, 2008

So we have finally arrived at day one of my blogging experience, today ill give you a brief introduction of myself, and say what ill be doing.

Ok so first off this blog is mainly going to be about my experiences in game and my general rants about warhammer, once i finally decide on a class to roll (Im still stuck between Engineer, WP and RP) ill eventually get round to giving you my perspective on them, however until that your stuck with me shouting about ORvR and what-not.

Eventually i may even get round to doing short guides for various things, careers, scenarios, keeps, PvE Who knows!

Secondly, this wont be a very serious  blog with all that “number crunching” and “Elitest” attitude, iv never liked maths and never been good at it and im more of a casual player and dont understand alot of the theory crafting side of games, so if you are looking for something like that i suggest you look elsewhere!

Finally (Before i once more try to decide on a class) if you want to be included on my “Blog Roll” feel free to chuck me a PM as ill gladly put your link up for a one on your site. Also if theres anything else you want to know just /poke me and ill try to get back to you as fast as possible!

P.S: If i actually manage to decide on a class today, or anything else pops up ill no doubt update you about that, will no doubt do a quick update aswell before i head to bed later tonight so watch this space!

Just a quick update…

December 21, 2008

Just a quick update before i finally hop into bed and dream of me killing a whole destro zerg by myself.

Managed to get the “About” page working, still havnt figured out how to get pictures where i want them yet so you will have to do without them for the time being!

Tomorrow (Well.. today technically) starts my “Day 1″ Entry where my epic adventures begin!

I hope to see you there!
